Remembrance day is around the corner, and to commemorate the

sacrifices of our Armed Forces, our class is participating in Royal Canadian

Legion’s annual literacy contest!

Your task is to exercise your creativity and write a poem on the theme of
Remembrance Day. You will print out two copies of your poem for your teacher
– one to be marked and handed back to you, and the other copy will be
submitted (by the teacher) to the Royal Canadian Legion contest. DUE DATE:
Monday, November 11th, 2019. Marks will be deducted for late submissions, and
they will not be submitted to the contest. The mark you will receive from your
teacher will be graded based on the attached rubric. As for the contest, your
poems will all be judged at the local Legion Branch, and then at the Provincial
level. The Provincial winners will then be submitted to Ottawa for judging at the
National levels.

Rules From The Contest’s Website:

1. Candidates will submit a poem of not more than 32 lines.

2. Entries will be marked on the basis of originality of thought, expression,
presentation, grammar, spelling and Canadian content.
3. Candidates will only use one side of the page
4. Entries must not exceed the word or line limit
