Question

If you were considering leaving your three year-old child in a child care facility (family
day care or child care center), what would be your major concerns? Why? Would your
concerns be different, if your child were an infant? Explain. Would you prefer an academic or a
child-centered preschool for your child? Why?

Answer
If I were to leave my three year-old in a child care facility my concerns would be about
how they treat my child and all the other children. I would want to watch the child care take care
of the children and see their schedules. One of my major concerns would be the teachers and
how they treat all the children, especially mine. I would want to see the bond that the adults
have with my child, just to make sure my child isn’t getting neglected, abused, or treated poorly
for a three year-old. Another concern would be how the other children react with each other and
the different age groups. I would want a child care facility that has different areas for all the
different age groups. That way my child will be learning what his/her age should be learning. Not
what the older or younger children are learning and doing. That way my child can develop
appropriately without me being there.
My concerns would be somewhat similar for my infant but a little more concerns. If I
were to leave my infant in a child care facility or a daycare. I would be more concerned about
neglect and abuse on my child. Infants require more attention and handling than a three year-
old and older. I wouldn’t want my infant in a place that is dirty, has random items laying around
or anything like that. I also would make sure that my child was getting fed the right amount and
the diaper was getting changed when it needs to get changed. I also would make sure that my
baby stays on the right schedule. This way the baby doesn’t have a different schedule there and
at home. The schedule would flow from the facility to home.
I would prefer my child to be in a child centered preschool at a younger age. Child
centered programs “ stress each child’s development and growth (Berger, 2014, 194).” This way
my child learns and gets ready to be in a school that is harder. If I put my child in a child center
based preschool will learn simple subjects, get the hang of numbers, letters, colors, shapes, and
all the different subjects. A child center based preschool helps develop the children and helps
their brains grow in a fun, easy way. My child would be learning new subjects that they would
use for the rest of their schooling and actual lives. My child can also use materials and supplies
that allow him/her to have self-paced exploration (Berger, 2014, 194).
