INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS

1. Your assignment should be typed using 12 point Times New Roman font and 1.5 line
spacing.

2. You are to submit assignment only in MS-WORD format unless specified otherwise.
Please refrain from converting text/phrases into picture format such as .gif / .jpeg / print
screen / etc.

3. Submission Method:

a. Face-to-face student:
You MUST submit a softcopy of your assignment online through myVLE and a
hardcopy to your facilitator.

b. Online student:
You MUST submit a softcopy of your assignment via myVLE and another softcopy
to the e-facilitator via e-mail.

You can submit your assignment ONCE only in a SINGLE file in myVLE. You are advised to
keep a copy of your submitted assignment and the RECEIPT as evidence of online
submission.

4. Your assignment must be submitted on 11-13 March 2016 (4th Seminar).

5. Your assignment should be prepared individually. You should not copy another person’s
assignment. You should also not plagiarise another person’s work as your own.

EVALUATION

This assignment accounts for 60% of the total marks for the course.

OBJECTIVES:
The assignment is intended to provide you with the opportunity to:
a) explore a variety of readings and understand key issues based on the selected
teaching and learning models.
b) synthesise key issues and ideas from your readings.
c) apply information gained in lesson design and implementation.

The assignment consists of two (2) related tasks. The details of the tasks are explained
below:

TASK I: READING SYNTHESIS (60 marks)

Read Topic 2 to Topic 9 in your module. Examine the four families of models, (information
processing family of models, personal family of models, social family of models and
behavioural systems family of models). Based on your readings, elaborate on the merits of
each family of models in terms of generating meaningful and effective learning in the
classroom. Your discussion could include the following:-

a) key terms and concepts pertaining to models

b) role of the teacher and the learners

c) use of teaching resources

TASK II: APPLICATION (40 marks)

Read Topic 10 in your module. Based on your reading, select any ONE of the lesson plans
as stipulated in Topic 10. Analyse the lesson plan and critically review the assessment of the
learning outcomes. Design and elaborate two assessment tasks for the lesson. Refrain from
duplicating the assessment tasks found in Topic 10.

Assessment Criteria

Your response to each task will be graded separately based on the scoring scheme
attached. For maximum credit, be sure that your response addresses each of the scoring
criteria components.

Assignment Format:
a. The assignment should contain about 3000 – 5000 words (15 – 20 pages).
b. Provide reference using the American Psychological Association (APA) format.
c. References should be latest (year 2005 onwards).

EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR ASSIGNMENT

TASK I: SUMMARY (60 marks)

Marks Descriptors
26-30 an accurate and complete understanding of the question;

logical progression of ideas on key terms and concepts pertaining to models, role
of the teacher and the learners and use of teaching resources.
21-25 an accurate and good understanding of the question;
a fairly in-depth understanding of the relevant readings;
good synthesis of ideas and communicates ideas well clear interpretations and
logical presentation of ideas on key terms and concepts pertaining to models, role
of the teacher and the learners and use of teaching resources.
16-20 adequate understanding of the question;
adequate understanding of the relevant readings;
satisfactory synthesis of ideas and communicates ideas satisfactorily on key terms
and concepts pertaining to models, role of the teacher and the learners and use of
teaching resources.
Adequate interpretations.
11-15 a below average understanding of the question;
some evidence of minimal understanding of the relevant readings;
some inaccuracies in synthesis of ideas on key terms and concepts pertaining to
models, role of the teacher and the learners and use of teaching resources.
Poor interpretation of ideas.
6-10 a minimal understanding of the question;
a minimal understanding of the relevant readings;
some inaccuracies in synthesis of ideas on key terms and concepts pertaining to
models, role of the teacher and the learners and use of teaching resources.
Weak interpretation of ideas.
1-5 Does not demonstrate an understanding of the question;
does not address the issues in the question;
poor understanding of the relevant readings ideas presented are ambiguous; very
