VCM Roadshow: A Reflection Paper

Voting is a fundamental right of any citizen that enables them to choose the leaders of
tomorrow. Voting not only enables the citizens to vote for political parties, but it also helps
them to realize the importance of citizenship. Many people do not vote thinking one vote will
not make a change, but as a matter of fact, it does. A nation’s political foundations are built
using elections.

The COMELEC officials of the Bicol region chose our school as one of the audience for
the VCM roadshow. Its objectives is to demonstrate to the students specially the first time voters
on how to use the vote counting machine. The roadshow explained to us the uses and features
of the Vote Counting Machine. The activity orients the voters on the automated voting system
and familiarizes them on the process during the Election Day. We were oriented on the integrity
of the ballot and how the machine is going to safeguard the ballots and count the votes. We
were able to see that the machine even provides us a receipt to show how we voted. They also
shown us how the machine invalidates a ballot if a person puts erasures. This activity helped
us for the upcoming 2019 local and national elections. The organizers let us experience how to
vote and explained to us the step by step procedure during the actual voting. As a first-time
voter this coming election, as I experienced inserting the ballot in the machine myself, I can
now tell that I am confident in voting this coming election without hassle and worries that my
vote will be wasted. I hope and expect that we all vote for the right person that will lead us. I
also pray that this coming election will be done peaceful and orderly.

Right to vote energizes social awareness since it empowers political cooperation. The
citizens can follow the progress of the political representatives and the legislature. This
consistent process enables the general population to settle on educated choices about whom
to vote in favor of in the following term. It is the right, benefit and obligation to vote as a citizen
of your nation and an individual from your society. Individuals may figure their vote does not
make a difference, but rather votes can shape remote monetary and social arrangements.
