Objective

Provide steps to evaluate if Windows Update feature is available and if not how to

enable the feature.

Instructions

Note: This process is not considered a supported configuration since it was not part

of product testing and the Windows Update feature is explicitly only supported on new

installations of Windows systems on XenServer 7.0.

1. Uninstall all existing XenTools packages in order listed in screenshot

2. Reboot VM
3. Check Device Manager it should show only the single Other Devices no C000
device
4. Shutdown VM
5. Apply the C000 device capability using the following xe CLI command:

xe vm-param-set uuid=<VM-UUID> has-vendor-device=true

1. Start VM
2. Check Device Manager for Base System Device with Device ID C000

3. Install 7.0 XenTools using ISO

4. After XenTools is installed the C000 device will be visible under "System Devices"
As long as Windows Update is enabled in the virtual machine and the XenServer host

is licensed for Windows Update the virtual machine should receive XenTools updates

from Windows Update service now
