Most important : Before solving any DI question, have a look at the options. The
difference in the magnitude of options will tell you 'how much you can approximate'.
This single thing will save you a lot of time and frustration during the exam and
while preparing for it.

 Try to attempt where there are 5+ questions for a pair or a graph

 Take first 5 seconds to look at the graph
 Take next 25 seconds to read the questions. What do they want from
you?
 Next 30 seconds look at the graph from question point of view - try to
analyze what you need to do to answer. You'll need fractions and
percentages to answer most - be it growth rate or interest!

Getting accustomed with DS questions, as they would help you score more

Rejection of DI sets based on the volume of data is a complete NO-NO.

More data does not necessarily mean a more difficult set and vice versa

One thing that the aspirants should avoid falling prey for is the sitter questions
in the CAT exam. These are the questions which, somehow, cannot be solved
or could cost you a lot of time if tried to solve. This is something you should be
careful about and avoid them if possible. Sitter questions are intentionally
poured in the paper to create a hurdle in your smooth going course of exam.
So, you should be watchful and don’t let these sitters interrupt your flow.
use the options!

Calculation Speed

A. to multiply two 2-digit numbers having the same ten’s digit and if their one’s
digits add up to 10, say 23 * 27, then

Step 1 - Multiply first digit of one number by the first digit + 1 of the other number :

2 * (2 + 1) = 6

Step 2 - Multiply the rightmost digits (if result is a single digit number, put a 0 in
front of it) :

3 * 7 = 21

Step 3 - Place the result from Step 2 next to the result from Step 1 :

6+21 = 621
For example, in a pie chart, instead of referring to each value repeatedly, you can
quickly tabulate all the values. This will not make calculations easier but it will surely
save little time which one spends referring to values on the computer.

CBD or NOTA:

If one of the options is Cannot Be Determined (CBD), it becomes a question of Data

sufficiency, and sometimes can be quickly solved if you know that one of the
requisite data point is not provided in the question. Your answer becomes CBD in
that case. If one of the options is None of the Above (NOTA), those who may have
solved a few DI or QA questions may agree. Once you get an answer that is not
there in the options given and one of the options is NOTA, you are never satisfied
and tend to re-do the question and end up wasting time. In such a case, it is better
to avoid such a question in the first go.
