Tutor Match Business Proposal Part Two

LOCATION OF BUSINESS
Our building will be located somewhere in Hyde Park, London Ontario. A CTV article writes
Hyde Park is “London's fastest growing neighbourhood”. Based on a 2011 consensus, the
population of children aged ten to fourteen has increased by 152%, and the population of
children aged fifteen to nineteen has increased by 200% in the area. Also, the population as a
whole neighborhood has increased by 30%. With these statistics in 2011, you can imagine
how quickly the Hyde Park area will continue to increase. Hyde Park currently has two
tutoring centers in the area (SL Math Education and Tutoring Centre) and (UCMAS Abacus &
Mental Math School) both of which are heavily math based, and both lacking an app. Our
building will be a perfect location for consultations, tutoring sessions and a resource as well
for all the core subjects the app will offer tutors for (Math, English, Science
[Biology/Physics/Chemistry], French, History and Geography).

OUR PRIMARY TARGET GROUP

Our primary target group would be children from the ages of thirteen to twenty-one (grades 9 -
13, which also includes students who may have failed a grade or two and needed to stay
longer in high school). In our first part of the proposal we planned on including college
students, but after further investigation we decided to downsize the target market to just high
school students. The decision was made because college and universities already have many
resources that are directed to the academic success of students within the college, thus
making it unlikely that they would try and seek an outside source for help. Generation Y
students are very tech savvy, they would be more inclined to look up our app, download it and
try to find a tutor who would fit them best. Also, we understand how important grades are for
many high school students - and with the lack of resources in a high school - see the perfect
opportunity to develop a safe and modern tutoring app to help all students who need it.

ANTICIPATED SALES IN THE FIRST YEAR

Based on a 2016 consensus, London, Ontario has a population of 29’425 of teens aged 15 –
19 (the core of our target market). Research done in the US has shown that on average, 8%
of high school students need tutoring. 8% of 29’425 is equal to 2354 students in London, that
will seek tutoring. We estimate we can attract at least 25% of those students to our app, and
successfully have them find tutors and begin sessions. The app will have a free consultation,
but students who are ready to sign up will need to sign for a minimum of three tutoring
sessions. Tutoring center’s (corporate tutoring companies) charge at prices starting at $45
and tutoring agencies take a minimum of 25% of the pay. Tutor Match will not only be a
revolutionary app, its tutors will charge $40 an hour and Tutor Match will only take 20% of the
sales. Therefore, an estimated sales reach will be 588 students with a dollar value of $14’112.
Plans of premium app features that students will need to pay for, and advertisement deals are
not included in the dollar value.

MANAGEMENT TEAM AND STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES OF THE TEAM

We believe a cross functional team will work best for our business. This type of team will
allow us to work as a team and separately in our own areas of the business. Also, this will
work for our team because we all have very different strengths and weaknesses and would
benefit coming together as a team to boost our strengths and support each other in our
weaknesses. An important external support will be a business consultant to help us stay on
track as we all have difficulty focusing. Accounting and legal support will be critical as we do
not have much experience in those fields.
Team Member Strengths Weaknesses

Samantha 1. Presentation skills 1. Hard time focusing
