EXERCISE 2C

QUICKSTOPS

PURPOSE:

Coordinated movement to simulate a condition when a rapid decrease in

forward airspeed is required (aborted takeoff)

DESCRIPTION:

-Normal takeoff profile until reaching 20 ft and airspeed 40-50 Kts

-Begin stop by smoothly lowering collective, left pedal, and simultaneous aft
cyclic
-Apply aft cyclic and additional decreased collective as needed to maintain
altitude.
-To prevent ballooning, decrease collective and/or less aft cyclic
-As airspeed is lost, aircraft settles
-Slowly increase collective (right pedal) to control rate of descent -Add
forward cyclic to level aircraft, settle to 2-3 ft hover
Note:
Use caution to avoid settling with a tail low attitude and make sure termination
is not at an excessively high hover height

Performance Standards:

Facilities Private Commercial

Termination point ±50 ft ± 25 ft
Altitude ± 15 ft ± 10 ft
Heading ± 100 ± 50
RPM In green arc In green arc

Common Errors:
-Not applying aft cyclic simultaneously with lowering collective and left
pedal
-Too aggressive aft cyclic input
-Descending and stopping forward motion with a tail low attitude
