On

Transforming Indian Nation under Modi’s Governance

Narender Modi after successfully governing the state of Gujarat for more than a decade became
India’s Prime Ministry in 2014 with a great mandate. The government has successfully
completed four years of governance that has transformed the nation to a great extent. India
before 2014 and India in 2018 has crossed many national and international records in terms of
policy, welfare of the people, national security, international relations and corruption. Four
major sectors have got a massive transformation under Modi government. The first is
transportation; the roads and railway lines are being constructed at higher pace than Congress
government. Many new and advance trains have been added to fleet. The government has
initiated the launch of Metro and other high speed trains in India. Secondly, for the first time
almost all the government'sdepartments have been digitalized for citizens convince.
The government prompted Digitalization at all levels. Thirdly, more roads and toilets have been
constructed in rural areas as compared to Congress government. Therefore, transformation of
rural development has been a great success under Modi government. Fourthly, electrification is
being done at good rate. And for the first time, India has surplus electricity under Modi regime.
Moreover, within the ambit of rural development, Mid Day Meal Scheme has got accelerating
rate of success to improve the elementary education accessible to the child from downtrodden
community. The mid-day meal scheme modified by the Modi government is the largest school
feeding scheme in the world. K Kamaraj, the last of congress titans in Tamil Nadu began this
scheme and was successful in implementation of this scheme. In 1995, this scheme was extended
by union government across the country. The latest amendment to this scheme was added by
Smriti Irani, the youngest of the Modi Government, who was successful in adding buttermilk to
the menu. The main aim was to improve the health of the school children and this buttermilk is
traditional and inexpensive providing a complete nutrition to the children. Currently, this scheme
caters to around 11 crore children in the 12 lakh schools of India. This is a great achievement by
the Modi Government.
Under the present government skill development and digitalization has been a great endeavor.
The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in India was formed to achieve the target
of Skilling/up-skilling 150 million people by 2022 by fostering private sector initiatives in the
skill development space. To support its various initiatives, NSDC is looking to create an enabling
environment by developing a robust research base for Skilling.

In May 1, 2016, Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) with the target
to provide five crore LPG connections to women from poor households by the end of March
2019. Till date hile 3.6 crore LPG connections have been issued over last two years under the
Ujjwala scheme which is a great success. Under Jandhan Yojana, as many as 31.6 crore
accounts have been opened under the Modi government’s ambitious scheme for financial
inclusion. These accounts have combined deposits of Rs 81,203.59 crore as of May 27, 2018.
Data also shows that due to this scheme It increased to Rs 73,878.73 crore in December 2017
and further to Rs 75,572 crore in February 2018 and have now crossed Rs 80,000 crore. The
number of people joining the financial inclusion programme is on rise, too. The number of
account holders has increased to 31.45 crore as on April 11 from 26.5 crore at the beginnin g
of 2017. The number of such account holders was 25.51 crore as on November 9, 2016.

Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the government has set a target of constructing five
crore new housing units by 2022 under the PMAY, of which three crore are to be built in rural
areas and the balance in cities. The urban housing ministry plans to construct 26 lakh houses
in 2018-19, 26 lakh in 2019-20, 30 lakh in 2020-21 and 29.8 lakh in 2021-22. However,
targets look challenging given the slow progress till now. But if Modi returns to power in
2019 election these schemes will get a new vigor and successful completion.

Another important policy of Modi government is the Mudra scheme, which focuses on
meeting the capital requirement of first-time women and Dalit entrepreneurs, has been
advertised as a big job creator by the Modi government. Loans of up to Rs 50,000, up to Rs 5
lakh and of between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh are given under the scheme, which was
launched in 2015.
The prime minister launched the scheme in July 2015, with the aim to train 24 lakh youth in
the first phase. he first phase of the scheme was easy as each trainee had to be given Rs 5000-
12,000. No surprise, the National Skill Development Council (NSDC) overshot its first phase
target. It trained 18 lakh people and certified another 12 lakh. Under the second phase, 60 lakh
youth were to be provided fresh training and 40 lakh to be certified for the Recognition of
Prior Learning (RPL) programme. Data shows that the National Skill Development Council
managed to skill about 600,000 youth till September 1, 2017, and could place only 72,858
trained youth, achieving a placement rate of around 12%. Under PMKYV 1, the placement
rate stood at 18%.

The above successful scheme under Modi government is landmark in the history of India’s
development. On the security front, India under Modi has been able to establish good relations
with neighboring and many Asian, European and African countries. Therefore, this proposed
seminar is an attempt to bring together academicians, activists, social workers, students and
youth’s perspective to discuss the success of Modi’s government to transform the Indian
Nation to a great extent. This seminar also targets to bring together the large number of young
students, experts from across the discipline and profession, and the people working at the
grassroots level. Thus the proposed seminar would have following tentative sessions and Budget
