SHAFT ALIGNMENT PROCEDURE

A) BEFORE LAUNCHING

1. AFTER BORING THE STERN TUBE , FIT THE AFT/FWD BUSHES INTO THE PROPELLER
BOSS CASTING.

2 INSERT THE PROPELLER SHAFT INTO THE STERN TUBE AND


JACK DOWN THE PROPELLER FITTED SHAFT AT DESIGNATED POSITION SHOWN ON
DRAWING PAGE 7 .

3 INSTALL THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT PRELIMINARILY ON THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT


BEARING/TEMPORARY JIG

4 CHECK THE GAP / SAG BETWEEN PROPELLER SHAFT FLANGE AND AFT INTER SHAFT
FLANGE BY ADJUSTING NO 3 INTER SHAFT BEARING AND TEMPORARY JIG HEIGHT.

5. CONNECT PROPELLER SHAFT AND AFT INTERMEDIATE SHAFT.


AFTER THAT, REMOVE JACK DOWN LOAD FOR PROPELLER SHAFT FLANGE AND TO KEEP
'THE TEMPORARY JIG AS ITS POSITION (DO NOT REMOVE THE TEMPORARY JIG ).

6. COUPLE Ml D I NTERMEDI ATE SHAFT AND F W I NTERMEDI ATE SHAFT.


7. CHECK THE GAP / SAG BETWEEN AFT I NTER SHAFT FLANGE AND Ml D INTER SHAFT
FLANGE, BETWEEN FW3 I NTER SHAFT FLANGE AND THRUST SHAFT FLANGE BY
ADJUSTI NG NO 2 a NO. I I NTER SHAFT BEARI NGS AND MAI N ENGI NE HEI GHT,
RESPECTIVELY
8. CONNECT AFT I NTER SHAFT AND Ml D I NTER, FWD I NTER SHAFT AND MAI N ENGI NE
THRUST SHAFT, RESPECTI VERY.
9. CARRY OUT POURING OF RESIN CHOCK FOR MAIN ENGINE FOUNDATION.

B) AFTER LAUNCHING
I . INSERT CHOCK LINERS FOR INTERMEDI ATE SHAFT BEARI NG AND TI GHTEN THE
FOUNDATI ON BOLTS AFTER TESTI NG THE LOADS OF I NT. SHAFT. BEARI NG.
2. CONFIRM THE SHAFT ALIGNMENT BY MEANS OF JACK UP TEST ON
THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT BEARINGS AT AFLOATING/COLD CONDITION
SHOWN ON DRAWING P A G E j H O . , IN THE ATTENDANCE OF SHIP OWNER AND CLASS.

3. IF THE CONVERTED BEARING LOAD BASED ON JACK UP LOAD ARE NOT WITHIN
THE TOLERANCE, THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT BEARING HEIGHT TO BE ADJUSTED
BY SCRAPING THE CHOCK LINER OR INSERTING SHIM PLATES.

MODIFICATION OF THE FORWARD SEAL

THE FORWARD SEAL SHOULD BE MODIFIED AS THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE


SO AS TO CORRECT THE ECCENTRICITY DUE TO DOWNWARD DEFLECTION OF PROPELLER
SHAFT AT THE POSITION OF FORWARD SEAL ACCORDING TO THE SHAFT ALIGNMENT.

I) THE CENTER LINE OF PITCH CIRCLE DIAMETER OF TAPPED HOLES FOR


SECURING THE FORWARD SEAL CASING ONTO STERN TUBE CASTING IS TO BE
ECCENTRIC DOWNWARD M 4 MM AGAINST THE CENTER LINE OF STERN TUBE
CASTING INNER DIAMETER AS SHOWN ON THE NEXT PAGE "MODIFICATION OF
FORWARD SEAL".
JFTS TAPPED HOLE WORK'IS TO BE DONE BEFORE INSERTING THE PROPELLER
"HAFT INTO THE STERN TUBE,..• . •; ... . /•, •.. ',,;

2) THE SPIGOT OF FORWARD SEAL CASING IS TO BE REMOVED BY MAKER.

3) SET THE FORWARD SEAL CASING SO THAT THE CENTER LINE OF

PROPELLER SHAFT .

4) SECURE THE FORWARD SEAL CASING WITH TWO KNOCK PINS AT
