TOP DOWN MODEL

Top down model is the experiences a reader has help him or her to read, decode, and make sense of
text. Top-down models ask readers to construct meaning from text; this knowledge is made from the
whole (text) to the part (words). This model does not focus on phonics and decoding, but instead,
allows us to opportunities to read 'real' books and make sense of them. Also known as concept driven
model .It suggest that we donot read each and every model . Top down model suggest readers have a
prior sense of what could be meaningful in the text based upon their previous experiences and their
knowledge about the language .

Example As our group deals the news of art and culture .So we get the news in the newspaper Times
of India that “Amitabh Bachchan to receive Dada Saheb phalke award “ date 24-09-2019 .We know
about the award and we make a general idea about the award and after reading the news we have try to
specifically analysis different types of aspects of the news .For example his famous work which is in
the field of cinema known to all .We have gone through the news very quickly as there was no any
complex term .And also the structure of sentence was very simple. Therefore it allow us to read the
news in very short time .And make us habitual to read the text in daily basis .in this text we use top
down model of reading.
