PROBLEM STATEMENT:
Plan and design an experiment to investigate how the presence of a growth hormone will affect the
growth rate of plant cuttings

TITLE:
Asexual reproduction

HYPOTHESIS:
Plant cuttings will grow faster when a growth hormone is present (Auxin).

AIM:
To determine if plant cuttings will grow faster when a growth hormone is present.

APPARATUS AND MATERIALS:

VARIABLES STATED:

 Constant/Controlled- type of soil, amount of water added, plant cutting used, time left in soil.
 Manipulated- presence of growth hormone.
 Responding- height of plant cuttings.

PROCEDURE:

 Preparation of plant cuttings:


1) Select a part of the plant to cut off from the “mother plant”. Cut a piece with both stem and leaves.
Cut the plant at the node at an angle of 45 degrees.

1) Ensure that all plant cuttings are exposed to the same type of soil, amount of water and the same
time in the soil.
2) Cuttings must come from the same type of plants/same age of plant.
