construction ‫کر‬

In Urdu, ‫ کر‬is used to combine two actions which happen one after another. When we combine

two verbs by using ‫ کر‬the aspect markers on the first verb is replaced by ‫ کر‬and only the second or
later verb keeps its aspect and agreement markers. When multiple sentences are combined by
using ‫ کر‬construction, the subject should be used just once. For example:

-‫میں صبح اٹھتا ہوں‬

-‫میں کافی پیتا ہوں‬

-‫میں سکول جاتا ہوں‬

‫ کر‬construction: -‫میں صبح اٹھ کر کا فی پی کر سکول جاتا ہوں‬

-‫وہ سکول جاپی ہے‬

-‫وہ اردو پڑھتی ہے‬

-‫وہ کھاتا کھاپی ہے‬

‫ کر‬construction: -‫وہ سکول جا کر اردو پڑھ کر کھاتا کھاپی ہے‬

When ‫ کر‬comes with ‫‘ کرنا‬to do’ verb the it changes in ‫کے‬. For example:

-‫میں کام کرتا ہوں‬

-‫میں کمرہ صاف کرتا ہوں‬

-‫میں آرام کرتا ہوں‬

‫ کر‬construction: -‫میں کام کر کے کمرہ صاف کر کر آرام کرتا ہوں‬

In perfective sentences, the use of -‫ نے‬with subject depends on the last verb which comes with
its perfective aspect and agreement markers. Example:

-‫میں اٹھا‬

-‫میں نے کافی پی‬

 ‫میں سکول گتا‪-‬‬

‫میں اٹھ کر کافی پی کر سکول گتا‪ construction: -‬کر‬

‫میں اٹھا‪-‬‬

‫میں سکول گتا‪-‬‬

‫میں نے کافی پی‪-‬‬

‫میں نے اٹھ کر سکول جا کر کافی پی‪ construction: -‬کر‬
