Observation 1 - Read Aloud Lesson
Presentation:
Group: Whole class/individual work
Read the book “I Like Myself” by Karen Beaumont (illustrated by
David Catrow).
Children to reflect on what they like about themselves, like the girl
in the story.
They turn and talk with an assigned partner on the carpet using
the sentence stem “I like myself because…”
After all groups finish, they share out in whole group.
Explain activity on carpet, students return to their desks and
complete self-portrait activity.
Using template, they draw a self-portrait and write a sentence
beginning with the sentence stem “I like myself because…”
Once completed, they raise their hand, I will star if complete and
they place the sheet in their mailbox.
(They may catch up on other work or read a book if they are
finished early.)
Adaptions/ Variations
For my lower level students, their self-portrait template comes with the
sentence stem provided and they only have to write what it is they like
about themselves
