Presentation:
Group: Whole class/individual work
 Read the book “I Like Myself” by Karen Beaumont (illustrated by
David Catrow).
 Children to reflect on what they like about themselves, like the girl
in the story.
 They turn and talk with an assigned partner on the carpet using
the sentence stem “I like myself because…”
 After all groups finish, they share out in whole group.
 Explain activity on carpet, students return to their desks and
complete self-portrait activity.
 Using template, they draw a self-portrait and write a sentence
beginning with the sentence stem “I like myself because…”
 Once completed, they raise their hand, I will star if complete and
they place the sheet in their mailbox.
 (They may catch up on other work or read a book if they are
finished early.)
Adaptions/ Variations
For my lower level students, their self-portrait template comes with the
sentence stem provided and they only have to write what it is they like
about themselves
