Introduction

I worked at Prakash Group of industries as an intern and then in the capacity of engineer

operations from September 14 to April 14. Prakash is an ultra-modern hi-tech manufacturing

firm and all the elements such as Copper Roller, Rubber Roller Spare Parts etc. These

components are built in its plant by a great team of engineers by using the most current

manufacturing means ensuring reliable quality and finish.

About the Company

Prakash is an ultra-modern hi-tech manufacturing firm and all the elements such as

Copper Roller, Rubber Roller, and Spare Parts etc. These components are built in its plant by a

great team of engineers by using the most current manufacturing means ensuring reliable quality

and finish. Prakash produces Semi-commercial printer and High-Quality Web Offset Press for

the newspaper book (Prakash Machinery: Leader in Offset Printing Machine). All of these

presses are manufactured in the company’s state of the art assembly facility. The company has

accumulated different classes of customers who have been satisfied all through. The business has

been the preference of many organizations that deal with 4 colors semi-commercial printing,

circular printing, book printing, financial printing, and daily newspaper.

Discernment

Prakash depends deeply on technology upgrades to keep it in a competitive edge.

Possibly, this is why it keeps on replacing its old manufacturing equipment with the most

updated machinery leading to increased production consistency quality, efficiency and always

timely. Most developed and advanced CAD/CAM software (NX) for manufacturing and

designing process is applied in most of its operations. These applications are to make sure that

there is a flawless and consistent performance. Prakash owns one of the latest and sophisticated

machine shp comprise a CNC device. It also has Lates, Grinder, VMC, and HMC which ensures

that there is a high standard. All these body components and units are manufactured, processed

and machined on these devices covering each parts production from machining, facing, boring,

tapping, and drilling for a reliable efficient and durable press (Prakash Machinery: Leader in

Offset Printing Machine).

Knowledge

It is a requirement that every engineering organization is committed to the social and

environmental factors by implementing Total quality management and lean manufacturing

techniques. The Indian government has a quality movement strategy which ensures that

businesses adhere to the government policies and regulations to become accustomed to

sustainable engineering activities (Prakash Machinery: Leader in Offset Printing Machine). Some

of the requirements include proper waste management, workers and environmentally friendly

processes and recycling. While at Prakash Machinery, I gained the knowledge to consider the

customer’s requirement of form, functionality and fit in any design.

Human aspects that take part in any form of design is considered seriously by

understanding the customer way of application since the product is under people’s hands for

assembling. Therefore, the employees psychological and product ergonomics factors need to be

addressed. I learned how the communication process occurs between the leaders, engineers, and

clients. Most of the communications are done through weekly meetings and emails and

evaluation of the progress are done by the department manager. All employees of various

departments are assigned different roles when the project arises. During my 6 months experience

at Prakash I learned the importance of knowing legal terms and the role of the organizations to

the client and use of practices to overcome problems related to legal requirements. For example,

the clients have the rights to claim for intellectual property rights of any machine design made by

Prakash Machinery (Prakash Machinery: Leader in Offset Printing Machine).

My experience helped me to understand that it is illegal to copy a similar model from a

different organization that has the exact requirements. Consequently, it is recommended to use

reverse engineering techniques and skills to minimize the chances of compensation and legal

actions. The organization has the expertise and big database in the Lates, Grinder, VMC, and

HMC and it is not a good decision to advance or change the already working machines.

Economically, this will be very expensive since the initial cost of adapting a newer version could

lead to financial constraints. Additionally, it will force the organization to employ more expertise

and train the existing employees.

Updating the Lates, Grinder, VMC, and HMC will imply that the company has to change

its functioning and may derail efforts to develop more. The alternative is to operate within the

current customer base until the machine fails to perform well. It should emphasis on the

expansion of the market for Web Presses, S.S & M.S. Reacors, Pulverizer, Nauta Mixer and other

machines (Prakash Machinery: Leader in Offset Printing Machine). I was able to understand the

way an organizational hierarchy and structure work in the manufacturing firms.

There is always a plant manager for each department of production. The Research and

Development (R&D) department are headed by the Divisional head and General Manager. The

role of the assistant general manager is the management of projects, planning and allocating

tasks to the employee. The purchase and supplies manager is given alerts and the rest on

meetings that deals with the bill material, leave procedures and accounts. Prakash has a serious

inspection rule where thorough assessment takes place at every department, particularly in the

final full coverage of scrutiny. The inspection takes place from the static inspection to the real

printing tests putting in mind the press’s client. The unique inspection system is able to make the

final evaluation. I learned how the Coordinates Measuring Machines (CMMs) are applied to each

component to make sure that quality to run the press is achieved(Prakash Machinery: Leader in

Offset Printing Machine).

Applications of Engineering Techniques, Tools and Resources

Prakash uses CAD/CAM software and (NX) software for all its 3D modeling.

Additionally, during 2D drafting, AutoCAD is applied to achieve the desired outcomes. 3D

modeling software is able to automate the creation of a draft. The draft is handed to the

machinist. During my period at Prakash, I was able to learn about plant operations by following

how different types of equipment and processes work. I learned how developed and advanced

CAD/CAM software (NX) for manufacturing and designing process and its applications. This is

to make sure that there is a flawless and consistent performance.

Prakash owns one of the latest and sophisticated machine shp having CNC instrument. I

was also able to apply my knowledge on how the company uses Lates, Grinder, VMC, and HMC

which ensures that there are high standards. All these body components and units are

manufactured, processed and machined on these devices covering each parts production from

machining, facing, boring, tapping, and drilling for a reliable efficient and durable press.

Web-Cleaners offer the best contagion removal in various applications (Prakash Machinery:

Leader in Offset Printing Machine). I was able to learn how it utilizes roller airflow or airflow

combination technology, the products within the range has the current shock less AC static

system. The shock less AC static control system is important for inclusive contamination

elimination and eradicates small particles measuring 0.3 microns and works in both side webs.

I learned how safety is applied in the workshop because of the induction process at the

workshop where the process had described risks and hazards. It was necessary to read all the

danger signs and always follow the requirement of PPE. It is important to follow instructions and

work with maximum care in areas that are surrounded by risks and hazards. Some of the serious

exposures were moving machines and oil spills on the ground which could lead to an accident.

Prakash exposed me to the basic principle of design for design and assembly during designing.

During the designing of the Pulverizer, the PSL exerts pressure in several sizes and alloys

providing the required flexibility to meet international standards and specifications. Sticking to a

strict quality assurance system enables quality products and better performance. I also learned

the general application of tubing (Prakash Machinery: Leader in Offset Printing Machine).

Tubing is usually completed in the bright annealed condition and it is important in various

applications such as structural, beverage and mechanical. I understood why the tubing has

different attractive features such as clean inside, roundness, and special features. The selection

was based on a mixture of high strength, corrosion and heat resistance properties.

Application of Systematic Approaches in Management of Engineering

Quality Assurance: Prakash has a total quality assurance which ensures that it provides

the best product to its clients. QA tool emphasizes on improving the process to have quality

products where there is a need to be efficient and effective. I learned how to use project

management practices in a logical way to complete a task successfully and exploit it as a future

reference. For example, the methods in designing should have a file that can be used for future

reference to the manufacturing process.

I also become aware that modeling methodology must be adapted from resources offered

in the firm’s online data drivers. I got an opportunity to establish the procedures of subject matter

experts and quality circles to ensure the decisions are done well or wrong. Prakash has a

fundamental approach that empowers employees to manage and its managers and supervisors act

as leaders (Prakash Machinery: Leader in Offset Printing Machine). My contributions as the

engineer operations are checking dimensions, checking calculation errors, bearing selection and

modeling using the CAD/CAM software (NX).

Professional Accountability and Ethical conduct

A good employee or worker should take pride in his organization’s ethical standards and

be able to respect leaders, other employees, customers, partners, and suppliers. At a minimum,

organizations normally require employees to comply with appropriate government regulations

and local laws. While working at Prakash, I was able to interact with the company’s human

resource department where I learned how to present myself for the sake of business performance.

I learned how to uphold the organization’s values such as not discriminating any persona based

on his racial, age, gender or religion. Working with an engineering company enabled me to

respect company assets such as machinery and other applications. Additionally, I am able to

avoid any questionable business practices and avoid blaming others because of missed targets.

Professional Conduct and Orderly Management

Doing work in a diverse business environment offered me the skills to behave in a

professional and orderly way. Avoiding any questionable businesses practices and shun from

holding others responsible for missed targets. A good employee must make a good decision that

can help the company achieve its objectives and goals. Maintaining punctuality and approaching

things professionally through taking into consideration of management or client requirements. I

also established the need to always keep do listing and having reminders such as a diary to
EXPERIENCE REPORT 8

accomplish a task. Segmenting work, goal setting and achievement strategy for long term jobs

help to meet the deadlines (Prakash Machinery: Leader in Offset Printing Machine).

I gave most of my attention to uphold timelines because of it a good way of judging my

professionalism. One of the most important experiences I learned is why the managers get angry

because of poor performance. It is important to realize the situations that managers go through

since they want to meet client requirements. While working at Prakash, sometimes the manager

will become harsh and authoritative when some specific tasks were not accomplished. I

remember while working on the auto splicer, we failed to create the required specifications

which resulted in penalties. Sometimes, it is good to remain calm in any prevailing situation

because human is to error. To act professionally, it is important to develop strong emotional

measure. Accountability and professionalism require that a person must handle other

professionally and not personally. My six-month stint at Prakash thought how to act proficient

manners with employees, leaders, clients and other stakeholders.
