Mega Engineering: Underground City

1. What is the problem?

 Chicago: Overpopulation and vehicular traffic

 Amsterdam: The construction of large buildings is almost impossible because
the soil is swampy.
 Moscow: there is overpopulation in the metropolitan area and Moscow has one
of the worst vehicle traffic of the world.
 Boston: High CO2 emissions in tunnels produced by the cars.
 New York: Due to the high skyscrapers, there are lighting problems in some
places.

2. Engineering solutions?

 Chicago: If the population continues to increase, Chicago will have to build an

underground city.
 Amsterdam: Build a system of channels, which can be blocked to drain the
canal and this way to build the foundations of a building.
 Moscow: It is building an underground shopping center and underground
parking.
 Boston: Construction of ventilation systems inside the tunnels.
 New York: To implement on the surface a lighting system that emits the pattern
of difference between day and night

3. At least 5 ways how it can inspire your project:

 I must have in mind the type of soil in which the building is going to be
constructed.
 To build in a river is necessary the construction of a channel that allows to
block it to later drain in the area that is wanted to build.
 I must have in mind the mobility of the zone where it is going to be
constructed.
 Produce alternative energy to reduce pollution.
 To build a structure it is necessary that the place has good lighting.
SUMMARY
China's Future MEGAPROJECTS (2016-2050's)

China is indisputably one of the great powers around the world. China has
proposed that over the course of 40 years will be the country with the best mega-
projects. These are:

 Jing-Jin-Ji: this project is build a megalopolis. This new city plans to unify the
cultural creativity of Beijing with the port of Tianjin and Hebei province. The
problem of constructing this megalopolis is overcrowding that exist in China and
the mishandling of government investment. The solution to this problem is to
build better infrastructure, the creation of a high-speed train; this must be
connected to the three cities in a short time.

 Water Transfer Project: North China presents water shortages. To resolve this
problem, the Chinese think to send water from the Río Yangtze in South China
to North China, through 20 stations pumping. Chinese engineers must give
more water to the Yangtze, for this will have to redirect causes them rivers of
southern China.

 The World's Largest Airport: Beijing airport is the second busiest in the world,
the Chinese military control 80 percent of the airspace, this obliges the civil
aircraft to operate in narrow corridors. To resolve these problems, he is
intended to build a mega-airport; this could have eight tracks for civilian use and
a track for the use of the army. This would make the travel more efficient and
faster.

 The High Speed Rail: one of the big problems that China has is the heavy
congestion on their highways. To solve this problem, China has opted for the
construction of high-speed railways, these become a fast and safe way to
travel. Several countries are implementing this system.

 The Longest Submarine Tunnel: the tectonic faults located in China can
produce earthquakes of magnitude 8.0; this prevents to construct the longest
underwater tunnel in the world that will connect the cities of Dalian and Yantai.
For the construction of this tunnel, Chinese engineers intended to reinforce the
walls of the tunnel.

 The Largest Wind Farm: reducing dependence on oil or coal are some of the
major problems of a country. China is building energy farm largest in the world,
this mega-project wind creates clean energy and green, reducing environmental
pollution and promoting renewable energy.

 The Nuclear Boom: a nuclear accident can be reached to end the life of
millions of people, the risk of constructing a nuclear power plant is very large,
such as exposure to radiation or having to have tons of reactive waste. But
China is willing to live with these risks, they are sure that nuclear energy is the
cleanest alternative to generate enough energy.

 Mega-bridges: to connect two of the most populous cities in China with the
less populated areas it is necessary to travel by plane or riding a ferry for rough
waters. The solution for this is the construction of a mega-bridge. This will be 15
times larger that the Golden Gates, it will have six lanes, the bridge will be
designed to support large typhoons.

China continues with an ambitious ascent, the megaprojects in infrastructure

confirm its process on it.
