Introduction: Troponins are protein molecules that are part of cardiac and skeletal muscle. Smooth
muscle cells do not contain troponins. Peak troponin values can provide an estimate of infarct size and
the severity of myocardial damage.

Aim: To determine the relationship between TnT values among patients with Non-STEMI and STEMI
treated at the University Clinical Centre of Republic of Srpska (UCCRS) Cardiology Clinic and analysis of
obtained data.

Materials and methods: The study analyzed documentation of 36 patients treated at UKCBL, and all
patients underwent PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention). In statistical analysis, we took information
about maximum values of TnT, gender and age. All patients were divided into two groups - with STEMI
and Non-STEMI. IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 23 was used for data processing.

Results: Patients with Non-STEMI had an average maximum TnT value of 894,411 (SDEV 1099.6445),
the highest value was 4264, and the lowest 11.7. 12 patients were male (66.7%) and 6 were female
(33.3%). The average age of patients with Non-STEMI was 68.4 (SDEV 9.477). Patients with STEMI had
an average value of maximum TnT 3076.989 (SDEV 3059.2102), the highest value was 9452, and the
lowest 8.1. The T test was done for group values t = -2.84846, p = 0.007404 (p <0.05), while the Mann-
Whitney U test gave a Z value = -2.23052 with p = 0.02574 (p <0.05 ). 15 patients were male (83.3%) and
3 were female (16.7%). The average age of STEMI patients was 59.83 (SDEV 11,952).

Conclusion: Comparing data between groups, it can be concluded that patients with Non-STEMI had
significantly lower values of maximal TnT (as confirmed by the t-test and the Mann-Whitney U test). This
hypothesis and correlation with a milder clinical picture were confirmed in the scientific work of Licka and
Zimmerman (Troponin T concentrations 72 hours after myocardial infarction as a serological estimate of
infarct size, 2002).
