Reference : FEDO visit for Inspection of DAY Tank D at NP Plant FACT CD on

26.10.2019.

Recommendations
 The permeable layer above the RCC at site shall be cut opened at few places for inspection
of the RCC beneath it. If no damage is found on the RCC then the layer above may be
reinstated.
 The bottom course layer thickness of NP Day tank D shall be taken . The region in 250 mm
distance from bottom plate to shell welding shall be closely inspected . If any significant
reduction in thickness is found then bottom shell course shall be replaced along the
existing weld joints. Otherwise the bottom plate to shell joint shall be cut at the existing
fillet weld joints for insertion of the new bottom plates.
 The bottom plate welding shall be made with use of backing strips. The backing strips shall
be welded to bottom plates on one side. The other side shall be let free.
 Care shall be taken to avoid ‘T’ joint in bottom plates at distances not less than 750 mm
from shell to bottom plate joints.
 The plate surfaces shall be shot blasted before Rubber lining. Two layers of Rubber lining
shall be used for the bottom plate lining and for shell lining up to a height of 1 meter from
bottom plate . Each lining shall have a thickness of 5 mm each. Total thickness shall be 10
mm (5+5). Staggered arrangement shall be used so that joints in nearby layers do not
overlap.
 The remaining portion of the shell and the roof shall have a rubber lining of 5 mm thickness
.
 The bottom plate shall have a radial extension of at least 65 mm from the shell to bottom
plate joint at the outside of the tank .

Note: The CAD drawing for bottom plate layout shall be prepared BY Technical services
