Copied this from another thread some time ago:

"Here's the tube layout and function for the JCA50H:

V1a(12ax7)=1st gain stage/input buffer for both channels

V1b(12ax7)=is the 2nd gain stage for normal channel
V2a(12ax7)=2nd stage of OD channel
V2b(12ax7)=3rd stage of OD channel
V3a(12ax7)=3rd stage of Normal channel and 4th stage of OD channel
V3b(12ax7)=Buffered send for FX loop
V4a(12ax7)=FX loop return
V4b(12ax7)=tone stack driver
V5a&b(12ax7)=phase Inverter
V6(6L6)=Power Tube
V7(6L60=Power Tube

Note:12ax7's have (2) sides and often each side is used for a different function within the circuit. Where 2
functions are used within a single 12ax7, "a" and "b" designations are used.

It is ok to use a 12at7/ecc81 in P1?

Yes, 12at7 is fine.

The tone stack driver, simply put, runs the signal through the tone controls."

Always thought V1 was closest to input jack
