BOI 205: BIOSTATISTICSSEMESTER 2 (2019/20)

RESEARCH PRESENTATION FORMAT

Your group presentation should be 10-15 minutes long using PowerPoint format. Pay attention
to spelling, punctuation, and grammatical correctness. Take time to organize your thoughts and
present them in a logical, concise manner. Each member of your group will be required to
present a portion of your research. You will be graded as a group and individually.

The grading rubric is included to assist you in getting as many points as possible. Review it!

1. TITLE SLIDE – Your title slide should include the title of your project, your names, the
date, your tutor, and your tutorial section.

2. INTRODUCTION – State the hypotheses and predictions for your project. Include any
pertinent background information that relates to your topic to clarify the reason for the
research. Why was this topic chosen? What is its significance? Be sure to cite the
sources used for your background information.

3. METHODS – State all methods performed in your study. You need to summarize, in
your own words, what you did and any changes/problems that were encountered. Also, do
not give unneeded detail.
4. RESULTS – Analyze your data and then present them in the form of figures (graphs),
tables, and/or descriptions of observations. Present your results, complete with titles and
legends. The title should explain what the table or figure is showing. Statistical test results
must be provided and explained. Any personal observations may be mentioned here.
5. DISCUSSION (CONCLUSIONS) – Restate your hypothesis and explain why your data
supported or did not support your hypothesis. Don’t hesitate to mention difficulties you had
or mistakes you made. Finally, where do you go next? The best studies open up new
avenues of research. What questions remain? Did the study lead you to any new questions?
Try to think up a new hypothesis and briefly suggest new experiments to further address
the main question. Be creative, and don’t be afraid to speculate.

BIBLIOGRAPHY – Use MLA citation style. You must have at least two citations.
