In my opinion, I think that telling a person that he is in terminal stage is already bad enough
but all we can do as nurses is to assure the patient that the doctor is doing everything he can to
treat him. As the nurses we should assure the patient that we will be here through everything and
that we can both get through this together. I will tell him that he or she is not alone in this journey
and that I will also make sure that the patient is comfortable and that he/she will always be occupied
with something to do. During this time, a patient is very sensitive because they know that there is
a chance that they will not make it so it important for us nurses to keep them happy and occupied
so that they won’t think about it as much. Negativity in the patient actually increases the chance
of their illness getting worse so it is important that we keep them happy and positive that they will
get better. In conclusion, after telling someone that they are in terminal stage, all we need to do as
nurses is to keep their hopes up and cheer them on as they fight for life. Nurses may not heal people
like a doctor does, but they have a more important job, it’s their job to take care of the patient’s
and interact with them in the best way possible. And if the patient lives because the nurse kept his
thoughts positive and gave the patient hope that he will live, that’s the best achievement a nurse
can get.
