Abstract: This paper aims to present some medieval manuscripts and
incunnables recently discovered in a small parochial library from Cisnădie,
Transylvania. It also introduce an inedit manuscript, entitled “De superstitionibus et malis consuetudinibus”, from the 15th century, which provides us a unique perspective regarding the dialog between catholic doctrine and the religious practice of the laity. This endeavor also deals with the religious, spiritual individuality of a community of Transylvanian Saxons. Including some legal, moral and preaching books, this small parochial library has a practic, pragmatic character, apropiate for succiding in pastoral activity and in reshaping, correcting the religious behavior of the community. From another point of view, these manuscripts and incunnables preserved at Cisnădie could offer relevant information regarding the theological education, intelectual formation and interest in pastoral activity of native elite, such as parochial priests or urban notaries.
