Mr. & Mrs. Epson,

Parents of Jake Epson
2222 Another St.
City, AZ 88853

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Epson

I am writing to you in regards to your student, Jake. There have been some recent
setbacks in Jake’s learning. After every reading homework, I have assigned the students a
reflection that they are able to use in the class discussions. The reflections and the discussions
are both for a grade and Jake has not done his reflections which causes him to not speak during
discussion. I am concerned for his grade as well as concern for his engagement in the
classroom. It has been made clear that this classroom is a safe space and I would not allow it to
be otherwise. In regards to his homework not being turned in, this has started recently. Jake
has always been consistent with turning homework in on time, and even early. I noticed right
away that he cares about his grade. He has stopped asking questions in class and refuses to
participate in the classroom, when he usually participates at any given moment. This is
concerning as his teacher because I want him to keep growing as student.
It was in his best interest that we recommended him to the school counselor and that
has not seemed to help Jake. I am more than willing to set up an in-person meeting or phone
conference that best works with your schedules. I would be very delighted to talk with you
more on your understanding of these issues and how we can work together to make Jake the
best student that he can be. If you have any questions before our meeting, please feel free to
email me at any time.

Warmest Regards,

Ms. Hurlburt.
