Preliminary Findings

Rose is a female third grade student who is full of positive energy. From the minute I met her,
she was excited and ready to learn together. My interest inventory that I created for Rose was a Jenga
game that had questions written on each block. We played the game and while we played, we learned
more information about each other and I also learned her general reading ability. I learned that she is a
relatively strong reader and has good comprehension of questions. An area for improvement that I
noticed during the interest inventory was her confidence level in her comprehension. She would wait for
clarification but if I were to ask her if she knew what a question would mean she would answer
correctly. I learned a lot about Rose from the interest inventory including that her favorite color is sea
green, and her favorite animal is birds. I also learned that she lives with her mother, step-father who she
does not like, baby brother and one of her older brothers. The oldest boy in the family does not live in
the same house and she did not say why. From what she said, it sounds like she has a relatively nice
homelife and she really enjoys telling stories about her baby brother who is three. This activity was very
informative for me and I have since been able to tailor my activities to what she enjoys.
