Associate Director

The role of an assistant director on a film includes tracking daily progress against the filming

production schedule, arranging logistics, checking cast and crew and maintaining order on the set.

They also have to take care of the health and safety of the crew. Sometimes there are good gestures

in the retakes. These are noted by assistant director. They are also responsible for continuity jumps.

They look for rehearsals and are also responsible for taking care of props. Another is looking for

scripts.

An assistant director is directly responsible to the director and runs the floor on set. Their

responsibility is to keep the production on schedule throughout the day, communicate to the entire

crew, and maintain the security of the staff and shot itself. They must be responsible for estimating

how long a scene will take. Moreover, they serve as the backstage manager, putting cast through

make up and wardrobe. They work with the director to coordinate and supervise daily operations.

One of the most important responsibilities of an assistant director is to call the roll that is to call out a

series of specific cues for each take to ensure that all cast on set are aware of exactly what is going on

so they can perform their particular role at the appropriate moment.
