RESEARCH PLAN

Name: Henry M. Boter Jr.

I. Research Title: THE EFFICIENCY OF CHICKEN

(Gallus Gallus Domesticus) MANURE AS BIOGAS

II. Objectives:

Specifically, this study aims to:

a) produce an alternative, and effective biogas using chicken manure;

b) determine the effectiveness of chicken manure as biogas and;

c) use chicken manure as biogas

III. Hypothesis

Null Hypothesis

The use of chicken manure has no significant effect as biogas

Alternative Hypothesis

The use of chicken manure has a significant effect as biogas

Source of Materials

The researcher will provide the chicken manure from Boter’s residence in Biñan

City, Lagua. The biogas plant will be inquired in Department of Science and Technology

CALABARZON region
Procedure of the Study

Preparation of Chicken Manure

The chicken manure will be collected, afterwards the chicken manure will

be dried under the sun for 48˚C to eliminate the foul odor of the manure

Usage of Biogas Plant

The manure will be heated to 38˚-52˚C/ 100-125.6˚F and pumped into the

digester in which the biogas is produced

Testing of Biogas

The researcher will test the effectiveness of the biogas by using bio-

methane potential (BMP) tests are widely used in studies concerning the anaerobic

digestion of organic solids. Although they are often criticized to be time consumer, with

an average length longer than 30 days, such tests are doubtless easy to be conducted,

relatively inexpensive and repeatable.

Locale of the Study

The study will be conducted on Jacobo Z. Gonzales Memorial National High

School, Romana Subd., Brgy. San Antonio, Biñan City, Laguna, Region IV A,

CALABARZON, Philippines. The researcher will also conduct a study at Department of

Science and Technology CALABARZON Region, because it is where the biogas plant is

located.
Experimental Design and Treatment

This study used 50g of chicken manure as treatment 1 (T1) to be processed in the

biogas plant; 55g of chicken manure to be processed in the biogas plant as treatment 2

(T2); and 60g of chicken manure to be processed in the biogas plant as treatment 3 (T3).

Duration and Schedule of Activities

June 4, 2018- August 27, 2018 – The researcher will prepare for the needs of the

study

August 28- November 15, 2018 – Actual experimentation

November 16- December 29 – Gathering of data and observations

December 30- February 25, 2019 – Reparation of research paper

February 26- March 2019 – Defense

Statistical Analysis

The following statistical tools were utilized to answer the problem. To determine

the amount of grams of chicken manure to the effectiveness of chicken manure as biogas.

Formula

(𝒇𝒐−𝒇𝒆)²
𝒙² = Ʃ 𝒇𝒆

where:

fo- Observed frequency

fe- Expected frequency

Definition of Terms

Biogas- Type of biofuel that is naturally produced from decomposition of organic waste

Biogas plant- Optimizes the utilization of manure and other organic feedstock by

converting the biomasses into energy and valueable bio-fertilizer

Manure- Animal dung used for fertilizing land

Bio-methane potential- key analytical technique to assess the implementation and

optimisation of anaerobic biotechnologies.

Methane- gas that is found in small quantities in Earth's atmosphere. Methane is the

simplest hydrocarbon, consisting of one carbon atom and four hydrogen atoms. Methane

is a powerful greenhouse gas.

Bioassay- defined as estimation or determination of concentration or potency of physical,

chemical or biological agents by means of measuring and comparing the magnitude of

the response of the test with that of standard over a suitable biological system under

standard set of conditions

Biofuel- combustible fuels created from biomass

Biomass- renewable energy from plants and animals
