Rainwater harvesting is a simple method by which rainfall is collected for future
usage. The collected rainwater may be stored, utilized in different ways or directly used for recharge purposes. Rain water harvesting is a technique of collection and storage of rainwater into natural reservoirs or tanks. It is simply collecting, storing and purifying the naturally soft and pure rainfall that falls upon your roof.
Objective:
1. To reduce run off loss
2. To avoid flooding of roads 3. To meet the increasing demand of water 4. To reduce groundwater contamination

Process description:
The six basic components of a Rainwater Harvesting system include:
● Catchment: roof surface to collect the rainwater. ● Conveyance: channels or pipes from roof or catchment area to storage. ● Roof washing: ‘first flush’ diverter system to filter and remove contaminants. ● Purification: includes filtration, ozone or UV light to purify the collected rainwater for potable use. ● Storage: collected rainwater is securely stored in tanks. ● Distribution: a system that delivers the rainwater, usually including a small pump and pressure tank. Application: ● Rainwater harvesting systems are capable of providing stand alone supplies or supplementary water supplies, for potable or non potable use. ● Rainwater harvesting helps utilities reduce peak demands during the summer months, saving treated water for more important and appropriate water uses. ● While rainwater can be a perfect primary water source for many uses and situations, it is also a great backup water supply for emergency situations. ● It is an excellent source of water for plants and landscape irrigation since it has no chemicals such as fluoride and chloramines.
