Students will recognize how past success can facilitate future success.
Students will recognize the purpose of evaluations.
Group Activity
Interrelated Topics
o Write all of the main topics on a whiteboard or large piece of paper [list of topics can be
found on Moodle under Week 10 Instructor Materials]
o Have each student go to the board and draw a line between two topics, explaining how
the topics are related/connected. Expand the discussion as needed.
We’ve talked about a lot of topics this quarter, and explained what you need to
do to be successful in those topics. But, there is a difference between knowing
and doing. You can’t be successful if you don’t act upon the knowledge you’ve
gained.
Success at Rose-Hulman
o Open the Making Connections Moodle Book [Week 10 Resources]
Watch The Dot video
Let’s talk about your dot
Remember the strengths you identified on the Student Information Sheet at the
beginning of the quarter? It took some time to develop those strengths, right?
The same is going to be true of the new skills you are developing in college.
Remember:
proficiency takes time
have a growth mindset – I can’t do something YET
Continuous Improvement
o Display the Continuous Improvement page of the Making Connections Moodle Book
[Week 10 Resources]
o Continuous improvement.
If time permits, show The Big Bang Theory Video Clip, “The Friendship
Algorithm”
At Rose-Hulman, we are focused on continuous improvement. We want to
make the college experience better and better, whether for a specific course or
extra-curricular activities. Over the next four years, you will be asked to
participate in various evaluations. We rely on your input and we make decisions
based on the data.
The key is your participation and your specific feedback. Don’t be rude or
generic, those comments do not help us improve. Instead, be respectful and
specific.
o Course Evaluations
The preferred methods for accessing course evaluations are:
A pop-up in Moodle – this notification should occur every time the
student opens Moodle on the Dashboard while they have incomplete
evaluations.
o Freshman Poll
Students will access the Freshman Poll through the Student Polling course,
which is hyperlinked in the Pre-Class Assignment section for Week 10.
Closing
Remind students that all the materials and resources for the course will be available on Moodle
during their time at Rose-Hulman.
