Personal Narrative Reflection

My personal Narrative was one of the hardest for me to write. In the beginning process, I
could not think about a topic to write about. I was really struggling with what stories I had in my
life that were good enough and I could write a whole piece on. I talked to a friend and she gave
me a few tips to think about when I was selecting a topic. Then I started looking through my
writer’s notebook and found a drawing of the Cubs Marquee and thought that that was the one. I
remember that day like it was yesterday. I did a lot of editing and revising on the computer, so I
don’t have much to show but it took me a long time to get the perfect story to publish. I was
thinking about what the dialogues are I want to put in. I never liked writing a lot of dialogue,
even when I was little because I felt like it didn’t add as much detail as I like to have in my
writings. I know that is not typically the case, but that is just how I feel about my own writing. I
was also thinking, does this show enough imagery. Does this paint a picture in the head of the
reader? Even though I can picture it in my head perfectly, my biggest concern was making sure
the reader does too when I was writing and editing. I feel like I ended up doing a good job with
that. Overall, I am very proud of this piece. I was something I have been working on all
semester, and I am proud with how it came out. Now that it is published, I can’t wait to see what
my readers think about it, and if they love it as much as I do.
