My Personal Philosophy

By: Jonah Rosen

Ever since a young age I was always taught about the importance of family. Throughout

our years at school, often we learn about “Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs”. It is basically a

pyramid showing the basic needs of all human beings. Right in the middle of the pyramid is

Love and Belonging, which means having relationships with people where love is shared

unconditionally. To me family should be at the way top because in my opinion family trumps all.

Often times people forget how important love is, especially from those you are close with and

share the name and blood with.

I often refer to a saying my grandma would always tell me growing up. She would say,

“you are not rich by the money you own, but by the values and relationships you cherish”. This

means that no matter how much money you have, or the number of belongings that you own,

as long as you have meaningful and loving relationships surrounded by good values you are

then considered rich. Many people believe the key to happiness is money and monetary items,

but money can not by you true love. Some people believe otherwise, but those are the people

who have never experience true genuine love.

Everyone has their own philosophies and beliefs, and these are just mine. We live in a

society where everyone is competing to have the most money or the most amount of nice

clothes, and people tend to lose sight of the things and the people that matter most. As the old

saying goes, “you can’t choose your family”. Why not enjoy your families and the time you can

spend together, because it will not last forever.
