This internship was a great opportunity to gain experience. I had five different options in
the medical/health field setting to choose from. I had the privilege of doing my internship at
Kaylor Family Medicine in Meridian. I chose to do my internship there for a few reasons. Dr.
Kaylor is my family doctor and I know him on a personal level, I felt that I would get the most
out of my internship somewhere that I felt comfortable. I mentioned the internship to him at one
Dr. Kaylor just recently opened his own practice, Kaylor Family Medicine, that
specializes in family medicine and women’s health. Since they specialize in those areas, I knew
that I would be able to see them work patients for many different reasons. I felt that my other
options wouldn’t give me as much insight since they would be more specific. Patients would be
coming in for regular check-ups, flu shots, and a variety of other things.
The internship went really well and I’m happy with my choice to do it there. The first day
of my internship I met everyone on staff and came up with a game plan for what I would be
doing. After the first day, I shadowed with Dr. Kaylor, the physician assistant, and nurses when
they met with patients. I also helped the office manager organize and file paperwork. Everyone

I learned a lot about family medicine and women’s health during my time there. Dr.
Kaylor took the time to go over labs in detail with me, what certain things meant and what
abnormalities to look for. He also educated me on medications when they pertained to patients
we saw that day. I was able to see patients receive flu shots, get blood drawn, and even a skin
biopsy. After the first blood draw I saw, one of the nurses showed me the lab where they take the

be a radiologic technologist. I applied to the rad tech program at Boise State in February and
didn’t get in, which discouraged me from wanting to continue. The internship influenced my
career choice by reassuring me that I am taking the right path by going into the medical/health
field. Dr. Kaylor knew before the internship what I was going to school for and that I didn’t get
into my program. On the last day of my internship he encouraged me to keep doing what I’m
I really enjoyed my time doing the internship and it was such a great opportunity. I’m
glad that it was a requirement for this course because it gave me good insight. I will be
reapplying to the radiologic technologist program at Boise State this coming February with
experience from this internship, a health science degree, and more determination than I’ve ever
had before.
