Communication Module Reflection

1. From the feedback I received from my partner, I would consider including music in the

background while the guest co-host and I are talking, as well as talking with more enthusiasm in

our voices. The feedback overall was very positive stating how the intro to my podcast was “very

attention grabbing” and that the message from the discussion was very clear from start to end.

The elements of revision are definitely possible to add if I were to do another episode. I would

simply lower the intro music once I begin talking but keep it playing in the background to avoid

hearing awkward pauses or breaths. The critique of talking with more enthusiasm is also possible

to implement for future shows. The only issue I see with speaking with an excited tone is that

maybe the topic for that show is sensitive and deep, so it would be inappropriate to sound happy.

For most episodes, however, an enthusiastic tone is acceptable and would elevate the interest in

the listener rather than sounding a bit monotone like my pilot episode.

2. Since this is the second project for this class, I felt much more confident and the process was

much smoother than the first project. The feedback I received for my podcast was very helpful in

demonstrating how others besides myself might hear my voice different or whether or not they

understood the message from the discussion. Being able to review someone else’s podcast was

beneficial for me because I was able to get new ideas but also know what I did not enjoy hearing,

so I can avoid that in my own podcast. If I started my podcast again, I would add more humor

into the episode by adding a segment for a joke, or funny story. I would still keep it based off

social media followers’ requests and stories to keep it unknown for the hosts to talk about until

they read it off one of their social handles.

3. Initially, I did not view recording a podcast as having any benefits other than just getting the

assignment done. I was surprised to see how much I enjoyed recording the podcast and how it

brought out my creativity. It also worked as an outlet for me to express my opinion freely

without feeling judged. A way to use my podcast outside of its original use is to simply record it

weekly and vent about a topic I feel strongly about, but not upload it like normal podcasts. It

would simply be used as a form of therapy to let my feelings out. In a classroom, podcasts could

be incorporated during snack or play time where the teacher could play one in the background.

Eventually students could pick their own podcasts to listen to, maybe twice a week, and the class

could discuss the different topics and issues from the one they listened to.
