As a form of demonstrating my abilities to employ communications theories,

perspectives, principals, and concepts, I have selected my third discussion paper. The fifth

chapter of our textbook is geared towards interpersonal communication and all of its facets. As

an aspiring salesman, I find interpersonal communication to be particularly interesting and useful

to me. In my time at Bryant, one of my favorite courses in my communications major that I have

taken was interpersonal communications. Not only because of the relevance of the ideas,

theories, concepts and perspectives, but because of the way the course was organized. Every

single class was geared around participation of students and the level of which they engaged in

the conversation. Similar to this class, it forced everybody to speak up and voice their ideas and

opinions. It was getting everybody out of their comfort zones that really helped some students to

grow as people and as communicators.

This chapter on interpersonal communications is very heavily laden with theories and

concepts that are central to communicating with people. This discussion paper forced me to be a

little more analytical that I had been previously in terms of putting theories and concepts into my

own thoughts and words. This helped me to gain a deeper level of understanding as to how and

why these theories and concepts were created and why they are so accurate. Being able to

synthesize these theories and concepts into my own words has been truly advantageous for me in

developing my core knowledge and functional understanding of the theories that are so close to

the core of communications. At the end of the day, communications simplest form is a

conversation, and these theories and concepts are directly applicable to any conversation, and I

find that to be very special and unique about the communications discipline.
