Harrisburg Area Community College
o Education Department Program Standards
‘All individuals, including persons with disabilities, who plan to work with young children during
HACC Field Experiences and when they enter employment after graduation, must be able to
perform specific essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
‘This Education Program Standards document outlines the abilities and behavioral characteristics
necessary for the student to be admitted to, continue in, and graduate from the Early Childhood!
Elementary Education programs at HACC. These are standards of admission and will be reviewed
with/for each student at least twice while they are a student at HACC to ensure that the student still
meets the program standards.
Each student should carefully review these program standards for the Education Program and ask
questions if not familiar with the activities or functions listed. The student must decide if he or she
hhas any limitations that may restrict or interfere with satisfactory perferformance of any of the
requirements. It is ultimately the applicant's responsiblity to meet these program standards
and to notify their academic advisor if their ability to meet the qualifications changes during
their enrollment in the Early Childhood/Elementary Education program.
‘The applicant should consult with the program director to discuss any individual situation if he or she
may not be able to meet these essential qualifcations, Requests for reasonable accommodation
will be considered. Contact the program director if you have any questions about this matter.

Please note that according to the ADA, an institution may not exclude an “otherwise qualified”
‘student merely because of a disability, if the institution can reasonably modify its program or
facilities to accommodate the student with a disability. However, an institution need not provide
accommodations or modify its program of study or facilities such that the accommodations or
modifications would “fundamentally alter” and/or place an “undue burden on” the educational
program or academic requirements and technical standards which are essential to the program.
Students who enter a course of study in the Early Childhood/Elementary Education program at
HACC will also be required to provide necessary documntation of additional documentation prior to
their participation in EDUC 110 or 111. Students will also be responsible for maintaining these
‘compliance documents annually. The following must be comleted (at your own expense), once you
are enrolled in Early Childhood/Elementary Education programs.
+ PAChild Abuse History Clearance (Act 51) + TB Test =
+ PAState Police Criminal Record Check (Act 34) * FBI Clearance: Fingerprint Check
It is the student's responsibility to inform Jennifer Myers, the Clearance/Placement
Coordinator, immediately if their clearance status changes while they are a student at HACC.
Failure to do so may result in dismissal from the Early Childhood/Elementary Education
program.HACC.
