H&M

About Two years ago H & M dropped a youth collection of sweaters, it contained 3

different designs and each design had a different model. However one of the jackets said

“coolest monkey in the jungle” with a little african american boy modeling it. After being posted

on their website and ready to buy, many people began to get angry and upset , this ad went viral

throughout social media and millions saw the mistake that H & M made. The store even lost

some of their Big celebrity endorsements like The Weeknd and G-Eazy. Causing this store to be

not as popular as usual. Many famous people began reposting the ad with a critique on what the

jacket says to have it say “king of the jungle”. What really caught anyone and everyone's

attention with this ad was the words on the jacket and the model. The jacket said “coolest

monkey in the jungle” with an Africn American boy modeling it. Which is very racist due to the

fact that back then during the slavery days “monkey” was used as a racial calling to make fun of

them for being the color they are and obviosly it is still used till this day as a racial slur. Some

features this ad has that usually ads have is a model as in someone is modeling the product being

sold, a price tag and lastly the size chart.

This ad is different from the others because its discriminating against people who are not

only African American but who are African American and young but in terms of comparing ads

to this ad, its way different and way worse than its competitors. After this ad was published and

word got around stores did not really have to compete anymore with H & M due to that racist ad

and no one wanting to be the person to go and buy from there after the racist ad. Everyone was

upset at the fact of H & M making fun of African Americans, by calling them monkeys and

having a person of color demonstrate it. This ad could easily be changed by simply changing the

word monkey to what all his supporters said like “king” it would not only make everyone happy

it would help with a problem we have now as in racism.
