Textiles — Tests for colour fastness — Part DO1: Colour fastness to dry cleaning 1 Scope 1.1. This part of ISO 105 specifies a method for de- termining the resistance of the colour of textiies of all, kinds and in all forms to dry cleaning, 1.2. This method is not suitable for the evaluation of the durability of textile finishes, nor is it intended for Use in evaluating the resistance of colours to spot and stain removal procedures used by the dry-clea 1.3. This test covers colour fastness to dry cleaning ‘only; commercial dry-cleaning practice normally in volvas other operations such as water spotting. sol- vent spotting, steam pressing, etc., for which other standard test methods are available if the full “dry Cleanability” of the textile is to be assessed. 1.4 The presence of absorbed water in either the fabrie of the dry-cieaning solution, or the presence of a detergent and water in the dry-cleaning solution, nas ‘not been found to be a critical factor in assessing colour festness. This test gives results which corselate satisfactorily with those obteined in commercial ary. sleening, 1.8 Festness to dry cleaning, without further quali- fication, means fastness to dry cleaning in per- chiorosthylene. However. if required, other solvents may be used. 2 Normative references The following standards contsin provisions. which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this part of ISO 105. The change in colour of the specimen is assessed with the grey scale for assessing change in colour. At the cenciusion of the test, the coloration of the solvent is assessed by comparing the fitered solvent with un- used soivent by transmitted light, by means of the a'ey scale for assessing staining. 4 Apparatus and mat 41 Sultable mechanical device, consisting of @ water oath containing e rotatable shaft which sup- ports, radially, glass or stainless steel containers (6.2), the ‘bottom of the containers being 45 mm + 10 mm from the centre of the shaft, The Page 4 EN ISO 105-D01 : 1995 shefticontainer assembly is rotated at a frequency of 40 min”! + 2 min”', The temperature of the water bath is thermostatically controlled to maintain the test solvent at 30°C 4 2 °C. Treat the specimen for 30min at 30 °C + 2 °C in the specified equipment (4.1). 6.3 Remove the bag from the container, withdraw ‘the specimen, place it between adsorbent paper or Gloth and squeeze of centiifuge to remove surctus solvent. Dry tha specimen by hanging it in air at 3 temperature of 60°C x 5 °C. 6.4 Assess the change in colour of the specimen with the grey scale for assessing change in colour (6). 6.5 At the conciusion of the test, filter tne solvent remaining the container (4.2) through filter paper.
