MENTOR TEACHER’S WEEKLY REPORT #7

TEACHER: Patsy Stahl

SCHOOL: Charles H. Wright Academy of Arts and Science

STUDENT: Jamie MacNeil

REVIEW OF THE WEEK: (WHAT AND HOW DID THE STUDENT PERFORM)
Jamie concluded her student teaching experience at Charles wright Academy. Her final lesson
was about floor hockey. She introduced the lesson by talking about the origin and
development of the game, goals and objectives, hockey equipment and how it is used in the
game. She gave a brief demonstration on how to hold the hockey stick and move the puck
properly. She stressed the importance of keeping the hockey stick on the floor for safety
purposes. Jamie used questioning throughout the lesson checking for understanding. The
lesson was divided into three parts: Stick handling, goal shooting and physical activity. Jamie
showed a clip from the movie “The Mighty Ducks” so the students could see how to stick
handle and shoot a goal properly. Jamie set up six stations: 2 goal shooting, 2 stick handling
and 2 physical activity. She divided the class into groups of 4 to 5 students each and let the
practice stationary stick handling. The students were then able to rotate and practice the skills
at each station. After practicing, the students played relay games. Jamie circulated around
the room checking form and giving assistance to students needing help. The students stayed
on task most of the time and had lots of fun! During closure, Jamie used questioning to check
for understanding. Jamie told the students this would be her final week and that she would be
moving on to do her high school student teaching.

I thought the lesson went great! The students were engaged throughout the lesson. This was
a good lesson for the students because they are not familiar with the game of hockey and
know very little of how the game is played. It was a great learning experience for them!

On Wednesday, Jamie conducted a fitness workout for the staff during the staff meeting. She
presented some Zumba Kids Brain Break ideas. The teachers all reported to the gym for the
workout during the first half of the staff meeting. Some classes do not have a gym period so
we wanted to give the teachers some Brain Break ideas they could do in the classroom with
the students. The teachers had fun!

On Thursday, Joyce stopped over to do Jamie’s second evaluation. Joyce said it was a good
lesson and Jamie did a good job!
Jamie continued to assist with the daily teacher routines. She also helped supervise lunch
hours and bus duty.

Jamie received several gifts, cards and balloons from the Charles Wright Academy family to
show our appreciation for her hard work and dedication to our students. We wished her much
success in her future endeavors. I have enjoyed having Jamie as my student teacher and she
will be greatly missed at Charles Wright Academy!

Thanks Bo and Joyce, Jamie’s performance has been amazing and very professional. She
always came in with a smile on her face eager and ready to get the day started. No matter
how hectic the day went, she still left with that same warm smile on her face!

I am confident that Jamie will have much success as she continues to pursue a career in
education. Jamie, you are AWESOME! Best wished to a bright future!
