Objectives:
 Learn the parts to the snare drum and snare drum stand.
 Develop understanding of basic snare drum stick grip and fulcrum.

Procedure:
 Disassemble snare drum and stand, explaining different parts to student.
 Student will put together snare drum stand while verbally explaining each step to the
teacher.
 Teacher will go through exercise designed to find out what height the student’s snare
drum should be at, then adjust the height accordingly.
 Student will pick up drumsticks without instruction, teacher will be able to see their first
instinct.
 Teacher will go through the process of explaining fulcrum as well as basic parts of where
your other fingers go on the drumstick.
 Student will try different balance points on the drumstick, trying to see which has the
most rebound.
 Teacher will talk to the student about what they notice about the different points of
balance on the stick, give critique.
 Teacher and the student will go through an exercise of trying to produce light rebound
strokes on the snare drum, only focusing on the fulcrum in technique.
 Teacher and the student will talk about what they’ve learned and noticed from the
experience.

Assessment:
 Assessment will be based off of the student’s knowledge of the different parts of the
snare drum.
 The student will be assessed on comfortability and confidence of picking up the sticks at
the right point and producing a rebound on the snare drum.
