BENEFITS OF PLAY
CONTACT ME! Play is beneficial to children of all ages, but especially to young children. We
Miss Lex Fodor have learned from studies that play is an integral part of brain development.
We have found that it can contribute to things like development of language,

known as intervention. Us as educators and parents need to aide our

more complex ways. These complex ideas of play could be modeling a person
they know or techniques/skills they’ve seen others do.

concerns throughout the
course of the school year! One way you can help your student at home is to encourage play! Enable
them to let their mind’s soar with toys and interractive games that are age-
appropriate and stimulate them. For example, find a fun game that
incorporates counting or other similar skills. You could also get them toys
that encourage imaginative play like dress up clothes, a cashier, or even a
kitchen set. If you want your child to work on their fine motor skills, you
could have them do things like make bracelets with beads. This will not only
challenge their hand-eye coordination, but also inspire creativity. There are
also many online tools like learning websites that could be implemented, but
don’t let that be your child’s only source of play!

Parent Newsletter Reflection

In this assignment I learned how important it is to have open communication with parents. This helps to create a
steady environment for each student were all influential adults in their lives are on the same page. I believe this
assignment was important becasuse it challenged me to write a parental letter from another perspective. With my
experience in the child-care field, I’ve written numberous informational letters to parents. However, I have never written
one with outside information. Typically I would write a half sheet about events/important information going on within the
classroom. With that being said, the thought of writing a newsletter was fairly easy for me. The challenging part was
coming up with a way to educate parents on the importance of play in a way that they could understand and relate to. One
thing that I would change in the future would be to incorporate a bit of outside learning for the parents, but also include
things from the classroom. In this particular assignment, it did not allow for classroom personalization. I do think it’s
important to have both aspects though.
