Not only did Mozart wrote several operas of his own, but he also ghost-written for his fellow

composers.
This short and charming aria you will hear tonight, “Un bacio di mano” (A kiss on the hand), is one such
music Mozart wrote for the composer Pasquale Afonssi and his 1788 opera “Le gelosie fortunate”.
Afonssi’s music is now mostly forgotten, but this Mozart aria lived on in its own right. In this aria,
Monsieur Giró tells Don Pompeo of the dangers of courtship and marriage. Listen carefully if you can
pick out a quotation Mozart did of his music – the first movement of the Symphony 41, “Jupiter”!
