Very good.
Our topic is about Multiplying Polynomials.

C. ACTIVITY
I will group you into four (4) and each group
will be given envelopes containing the task and the
materials to use. I will give you five (5) minutes to
complete the task. But before you proceed, be guided
by the following criteria:
CRITERIA POINTS
Yell presentation 5
Correct answers 5
Cooperation 5
Ability to explain well 5
TOTAL 20
TASK FOR ALL GROUPS:
General Directions: Simplify the following
expressions.
Group 1:
Ex.( 2𝑥 3 )(4𝑥 5 ) = 2 ∙ 4 ∙ 𝑥 3+5= 8𝑥 8 Group 1:
2
1. (2𝑥 )(−9𝑥 ) 5 1. -18𝑥 7
2. (-5𝑥 2 𝑦)(−3𝑥 3 𝑦 4 ) 2. 15𝑥 5 𝑦 5
Group 2:
Ex. 2x(3𝑥 2 − 4𝑥 − 2)
=(2x)( 3𝑥 2 )−(2𝑥)(4𝑥) – (2x)(2)
=6𝑥 3 − 8𝑥 2 − 4𝑥
1. 3x(4𝑥 2 − 2𝑥 + 1) Group 2: 12𝑥 3 − 6𝑥 2 + 3𝑥
Group 3:
Ex. (x +2)(x +3)
=(x)(x) + (x)(3) + (2)(x) + (2)(3)
= x2 + 3x +2x + 6
= x2 + 5x + 6
1. (x + 5)(x – 4) Group 3: (x + 5)(x – 4)
= (x)(x) + (x)(-4) + (5)(x) + (5)(-4)
= x2 – 4x + 5x – 20
= x2 + x – 20
Group 4:
Ex. (x−5) (x2 – 2x + 5)
=(𝑥)(𝑥 2 ) + (𝑥)(−2𝑥) + (𝑥)(5) − (5)(𝑥 2 ) −
(5)(−2𝑥) − (5)(5)
=𝑥 3 − 2𝑥 2 + 5𝑥 − 5𝑥 2 + 10𝑥 − 25
= 𝑥 3 − 7𝑥 2 + 15𝑥 − 25
1. (x +2)(x2 + 3x – 2) Group 4: (x + 2)(x2 + 3x – 2)
= (x)(x2) + (x)(3x) + (x)(-2) +(2)(x2) +
(2)(3x) + (2)(-2)
= x3 + 3x2 – 2x + 2x2 + 6x – 4
= x3 + 5x2 + 4x – 4
D. ANALYSIS
1. What was your activity all about?
It is about Multiplying polynomials.
Very good.
2. Group 1, based on your task what have you
noticed? We noticed that we multiply a monomial by
another monomial.
Very good.
In multiplying monomial by another In multiplying monomial by another monomial,
monomial, what did you do? we multiply the coefficient and add the
exponents of its variables.
Very good
3. How about group 2, what have you noticed in
your task? We multiply monomial by a polynomial.

Very good.
So what did you do to solve such expressions?
We apply the distributive property in multiplying.
Very good.
4. Group 3, what have you noticed with your
task? We multiply binomial to another binomial.

Very good.
So in multiplying binomial to another binomial, We distribute the first term of the first binomial
what process did you follow? to each term of the other binomial then followed
by the second term.
Very good.
5. Group 4, how did you come up with your
answer? We apply the distributive property in multiplying
binomial to a polynomial.
Very good.

Let us say for example (x + 2)(x + 4)

In horizontal form:
(x + 2)(x + 4) = x(x +4) + 2(x + 4)
= x2 + 4x + 2x + 8
= x2 + 6x + 8
In vertical form:
x+2
___x+4__
4x + 8
2
x + 2x_____
x2 + 6x + 8

In FOIL Method:
F FIRST
O OUTER
I INNER
L LAST

(x + 2) (x + 4)

F---(x)(x)=𝑥 2
O---(x)(4)=4x
I----(2)(x)=2x
L---(2)(4)=6
Since 4x and 2x are similar terms we can
combine them. 4x + 2x = 6x. The final answer is 𝑥 2 +
6𝑥 + 8
=x2 + 4x + 2x + 8
=x2 + 6x + 8
Is there any questions class?
None ma’am.
E. ABSTRACTION
How do we multiply monomial to another
monomial? Multiply the coefficients together, and then
multiply the variables together. If two variables
have the same base, follow the rules of
 Multiplying monomial to a polynomial exponents.
In multiplying monomial by another monomial,
simply multiply the numerical coefficients then
multiply the literal coefficient by applying the basic
laws of exponent.

How do we multiply monomial to a polynomial? Monomial must be multiplied by each term in the
polynomial. The distributive property can be used
to multiply a polynomial by a monomial.
How do we multiply two binomials?
In multiplying binomial by another binomial,
simply distribute the first term of the first binomial
to each term of the other binomial then distribute
the second term to each term of the other binomial
and simplify the results by combining similar terms.
This procedure is also known as the FOIL method or
Smile method.
In multiplying polynomials we have a lot of
methods to get the products of a polynomials. We
can use distributive property or the horizontal
method, vertical method and the FOIL method.

F. APPLICATION
It seems that you totally understand our topic
about Multiplying Polynomials. We will be having a
quiz bee.
Now let us start the game.
1. (2x+3y)(3x−2𝑦)=
2. (3a−5𝑏)(4a+7)=
3. (2x+3)(x−7)=
4. (x+3)(x-5)=
5. (7x+3)(4x2−5𝑥 + 6)
1. 6𝑥 2 + 5𝑥𝑦 − 6𝑦 2

3. 2𝑥 − 11𝑥 − 21
4. x2−2𝑥 − 15
Now try to read this “Multiply the courage and be 5. 28x3−23𝑥 2 − 15𝑥
brave to face all challenges”

What are your opinion regarding this quotation?

We know that in multiplication, we have to Students answer may vary.

multiply one another to get the product of a numbers
or a polynomial as well as in life we have to gathered
all strength so that we have the courage to face all
challenges. If we multiply the strengths and courage
in our life we will be brave enough to conquer them.
