discussion on modern items we use, such as calculators, paper,
and toothbrushes. We will then explore the origin of such
items from Ancient China. We will also discuss the various
forms of Chinese architecture and how their ideas changed
modern ways of building. We will discuss the importance of
the calendar and how the ancient Chinese calendar influenced
the modern Gregorian calendar used today. Along with this, I
will show short clips on the topic we are discussing. I will
collaborate with the Library and computer lab specialists, in
order for students to access books on ancient china, and to
research various aspects via an appropriate educational
browser in the computer lab.
To show off their new found knowledge in a creative way, I will
have my students create a digital poster on Ancient China.
I will create an example version of the digital poster the
students will create later on and present it in class. I will add
each of my students to my Glogster account, allowing them
individual access to the resource and print out pre-made log in
information. Prior to starting the project, I will check out a
computer cart for the classroom and demonstrate how to use

the Glogster website and tools to create their own poster.

Students will pick one of twenty preselected inventions, to use
with their poster. Students will then create their own poster,
featuring three fields of text. Each poster will cover key
features including architecture, inventions, the calendar, and
written language.
Students will also have access to a book cart in the classroom,
filled with books on Ancient China. (Including books on
architecture and inventions)
For students to receive full credit, the following criteria must
be met:
1) A written explanation of a chosen invention and the
impact this invention made, along with a picture
example.
2) Include three picture examples of Chinese architecture.
(Either drawn via Microsoft Paint or JPEG)
3) A section covering simple facts about early Chinese
written language, along with a picture example.
4) A section covering simple facts about the Chinese
calendar, along with a picture example.
Students will have 3 days to complete the assignment during
our History period. Students will also have the opportunity to
complete additional work at home, with the help of their
parents.
