Turkey. Stuffing. Family. These are typically the things that come to mind when thinking about
Thanksgiving Day. Hundreds of Atlanta residents, however, are kicking off their holiday
morning by running either a half-marathon or 5K.
The 5K and 50-meter dash begin at 7:30am, while the half-marathon (which, by the way, is 13
miles) begins at 7:45am on November 28, 2019. Participants and spectators start off at Georgia
State Stadium (formerly Turner Field). Click here to register.
Prices for each race vary. While it is
free to participate in the 50-meter
dash, prices to participate in the 5K
and half-marathon depend on when
you register. Cost for the half-
marathon ranges from $60-$95. Cost
for the 5K ranges from $25-$50. Both
races fall on the cheaper side the
sooner you register.
Here are five reasons why you should attend the race:
• The course will take you through beautiful neighborhoods, such as Inman Park, Old
Fourth Ward, Grant Park, and Little Five Points.
• Although the race starts and ends at Georgia State Stadium, spectators can watch and
cheer from the Capitol Building, Centennial Olympic Park, Atlanta Station, Piedmont
Park, and Historic Oakland Cemetery.
• It’s a family affair – all ages and fitness levels welcome.
• Eat guilt-free at the Thanksgiving dinner because you’ll burn off so many calories!
• At the end of the course, all participants receive a medal, t-shirt, free photos, and… A
PIE!

THANKSGIVING DAY RACES: HALF-MARATHON, 5K, AND 50-METER DASH
SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS

Most people do not consider marathon-running as part of their normal Thanksgiving Day
routine. These communication methods are intended to increase awareness and
participation in the half-marathon, 5K, and 50-meter dash.
Being realistic is critical. We realize this event takes place on one of the largest national
holidays in the country and cannot expect the same participation rate as a race being held
on a non-holiday.
Through targeted communication, the goal of these communication methods is to reach a
larger audience in 2019 compared to 2018.
OBJECTIVES

• To increase awareness of the races by targeting key publics

through the use of a press release and attention-grabbing
advertising.

• To increase participation in the races by 15% from 2018

through stronger advertising tactics.
KEY PUBLICS

• Atlanta residents (ages 6+)

• Visitors (people visiting the city for Thanksgiving)
• Athletes
• Non-athletes
