English 2100 Executive Summary.

In this class I learned how to think objectively about information and transfer that information to
a selected audience. I also learned how to use rhetorical concepts such as tone to sound more
professional in my writing. The English threshold concepts used for this class are: Writing,
Rhetoric, Action, Deliberation, Engagement, and Contingency. Throughout the course, all
concepts were used.

For my writing project I chose to create a report based on research I conducted on engineering.
The intended audience for the report was students who were considering engineering as a
career, but wanted more information on what it means to be an engineer. The report indicates
that a bachelor’s degree is the minimum requirement for engineers, the coursework is focused
on science and mathematics, the annual salary of an engineer is $90,000, and the field as a
whole is projected to grow.

My design project was meant to go along with my writing project. It is a trifold brochure that is
intended to convince students that engineering is a good degree to get. The brochure highlights
the importance of engineers as scientifically literate citizens, briefly describes the different types
of engineering, and lists the best colleges to go to.
