ACADEMIC DISHONESTY AND TECHNOLOGY McCray 1

Summary

This article was about academic dishonesty and proposed the question of are more students

cheating? To answer this question, there was a survey put out with six questions for the selected

participating students at the University of Central Florida to complete. In the findings, there was

a survey created and the students provided feedback and the feedback was collected as data and

analyzed to provide the answers for the research.

Reflection/Take Away

I think these findings are interesting for several reasons. One would be the responses for the

question about what the reasons for students are to engage in academic dishonesty: cheating and

internet plagiarism. The students responded many different reasons as to why they cheat and

plagiarize. The top three reasons were because of grades, procrastination, and too busy or not

having enough time to complete assignment or study for test. This does not come as a surprise to

me because I teach middle schoolers who almost always put other things before their homework

and their excuses are always the same as well. They would say I didn’t have time because I had

to go do something last night. Another reason it doesn’t surprise me is because of grades.

Students want to get the rewards but do not want to put the work in to get there. So instead they

copy from the smarter student(s) in the class to help them get what they need to do well.
