CONGLOMERATE

Being a part of a huge Aditya Birla Conglomerate, it is imperative the decisions and
the strategy formulated by ABFSG is in line with the principles laid down by the parent
group. The two major principles laid down by the parent are potential for market leadership
and scalability of business. This can be seen in action when the conglomerate decided to exit
its BPO business citing the lack of above two opportunities in the business. Further the
mission of the parent company emphasizes on synergy between components of different
businesses as a primary driver of growth by improving efficiency. Hence it is important that
any strategy formulation consider the impact on these aspects of business.

Aditya Birla as a group facilitates employee movement across its different businesses
to enable them take charge of their own career. They have implemented talent management
and leadership development processes such as ‘Step UP’ and ‘Turning Point’ to create next
generation leaders for the organization. Presence of in house globally benchmarked university
‘Gyanodaya’ strengthens the ability of the organization to pool in varied resources and
deliver the necessary training thereby enabling it to deliver both standardized and specific
training.[6]

5.1 BSLI

5.1.1 OBJECTIVE

To be amongst the top 3 private players in the life insurance business by capturing a market
share of 12% (Figure-9) each in the first year premium and the total insurance premium
market.
