THE VALUE OF CHARACTER IN TRADITION OF SEUNUJOH IN ACEH

INTRODUCTION

In Aceh, kenduri, from day one seven, even made yearly. It has been a culture since a hundred years
ago. Seunujoh is praying on the seventh day of human’s death. It was an islamic ritual that prevailed in
Aceh, since islam was brought by the caravan in several periods. The caravan was centered in
Handramsut, Yemen, passing though baghad, persia, india, and aceh.

LITERATURE OF LOCAL WISDOM

In Aceh every one has died all the people and the family visited the funeral home from the
first day until the seventh day, from the first day until the sixth day whoever came that they
all prayed for the dead and comforted the families left behind. For the seventh day all who
come from the first day until the sixth day are invited back all by the family for a meal, this
is a thanksgiving from the family to all who have been praying for his dead brother.
FUNCTION OF LOCAL WISDOM

The result of study show that several values of character education can be taken from the community.
Among of the values character education that can be explored from seunujoh are the values of faith in
God, braver, togetherness, devotion to parents, diligence and wisdom. Base on Acehness people believe
that implementation of the seunujoh was on of the requerements for someone who has died. Seunujoh
usually contains samadiah or praying together among families and society.

FINDING AND DISCUSSION

CONCLUSION

Love between human beings in aceh not only when they alive, but for a people who have died. Because
the Acehness believe in judgment day. About Seunujoh or islamic ritual for sick and other deaths, also
carried out throughout the Islamic world, including Turkey and Africa. It signifies that the Seunujph
culture has nothing connect with Hinduism, but is purely from Islam.
