Bhum 1101

The Handicapper General men abuse their power through the hierarchy. In the very

beginning of the story, it is stated that everyone within the United States is now equal in every

aspect due to the amendments to the constitution. Their abilities to talk, think and conduct normal

life will be the same. All of these are under the control of Diana Moon Glamper, the leader of H-

G men. Later as the story goes on, Harrison will found himself shot by Diana Moon Glampers.

This is Diana Moon Glamper’s responds to Harrison Bergeron breaking the laws: “It was then that

Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, came into the studio with a double-barreled ten-

gauge shotgun. She fired twice, and the Emperor and the Empress were dead before they hit the

floor. Diana Moon Glampers loaded the gun again. She aimed it at the musicians and told them

they had ten seconds to get their handicaps back on.” The H-G men make laws and set protocols

for every person to follows within the community, meanwhile imposing harsh punishments. They

forced people to wear handicaps, but they wear none. George is physically more superior than

other people so he needs to bear the burden of sashweight and birdshot, and every ball he will be

fined two thousand dollar and two years in prison. Diana Moon Glamper forced the musician to

put back on their handicap, yet she is wearing none. She is threatening others that try to achieve

freedom, but she frees herself. The H-G men took power from the people and promised them

equality, but they abuse it for their own sake.
