REFLECTION

The guest speaker, Ms. Melodina Babante, a City Health Office representative
under the Tropical Disease and Control Division discussed about the Dengue Fever in
relation the the rising cases of Dengue in Davao City. She explained well the type of
mosquitoes that are responsible for carrying the virus, the signs and symptoms and the
classification of dengue fever serotypes that are most common in Davao City. Her
discussion informed me with the knowledge that the CHO is open for free
consultation and NS1 testing when you are having fever for two days and that the
CHO is taking action in order to prevent these mosquitoes from evolving into adults
by destroying them while they are still larvae and pupae through their information
campaign in every barangay.

As a student nurse, I can use the knowledge I have learned through this seminar
by providing information about dengue fever and what CHO can offer to protect
myself, friends, family and acquaintances. This seminar encouraged me to become
more involve within the community I am residing, that I am responsible to take
actions, not just for my own sake but for everyone’s welfare. Ending dengue indeed
really starts with me, because no matter how hard these health officers exert their
efforts to end dengue, without the participation of the community, it is useless. Thus,
this leads to its recurrence, and we must fight over it altogether, for the present and for
the future that awaits us.
