Jenkins Summary

Heather as well as bunch of these teenagers are the positive example of how much can
be accomplished through fictional worlds. Something as simple as the sims could be
played for leisure but instead a whole political platform was established. Another
example is Hogwarts it was used as a model for establishing writing and reading skills
she was even able to staff people across the world 100 in total which is ridiculous. Blake
Ross is the most impressive example of the skill young people have with technology; at
just 14 years he was able to run the online operations of a company he was interning at.
His innovation went beyond working technology at this company Netscape, him along
with thousands wanted to revolutionize web browsers and came up with fire fox. From
studies conducted there is a consistent pattern that teens not only use the internet a lot
but have some sort of creative skill they can attribute to it a majority of them were
considered content creators whether that was uploading videos, pictures, or blogs. I
think what this has helped me realize is that the foundation for creating large influential
communities of whatever it is that someone wants to network over is now much more
accesible thanks to the internet. It is a literacy format of its own you have to understand
it to keep up and young people are doing plenty on it. There is collabpration and ideas
are being difused across the world thanks to online collaboration. Young people have
found a way to be involved in politics and discuss on large platforms a variety of topics
that impact their lives and have an ability to bring change. In part of my mission to
understand literacy through communities i am going to have to understand that there is
a whole world beyond paper and online journals.
